Ladies firearm class
The Fish & Game Club of Vienna, 1508 Youngstown Kingsville Road, is having a ladies firearm class from 5:45 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays starting this Tuesday.
The class will run for eight weeks and qualifies participants for a concealed-carry permit.
The class also includes hand-to-hand defense and personal protection, and a law-enforcement officer will speak on the laws concerning guns.
Cost is $75 and includes 50 rounds of varying calibers of pistols. For more information, call Shirley Williams at 330-534-2929.
Safe Boating Week
Ohio will kick off National Safe Boating Week, which takes place May 19-25. As the boating season begins, wearing a life jacket is key to boating safely in the Buckeye State, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The sun may be shining outside, but the water temperatures are still cold.
“While out on the water, people need to wear their life jackets instead of just having them close by on the boat,” said ODNR Director James Zehringer. “If an accident occurs and you suddenly end up overboard, a life jacket will keep your head above water and could save your life.”
Wildlife Legacy Stamp
The photo of a garter snake, submitted by Ryan Wagner of North Olmsted in Cuyahoga County, stood out as a winner for the ninth annual Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp Photo Contest, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Wagner is a sophomore at Ohio University. The first-place photo appears on the 2018 Legacy Stamp, which is now on sale.
Fourteen dollars of every $15 Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp sold are invested in the state’s Wildlife Diversity Fund. Visit wildohio.gov for more details about the Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp.
