Canfield High School senior soccer player Macey Malinky formally announced her selection of John Carroll University at a letter-of-intent signing ceremony in the athletic foyer of the high school on April 26.
A 3.824 GPA student, she is the daughter of Shawn and Carie Malinky.
Malinky is a three-year letter winner, two-time district champion, three-time conference champion, National Honor Society member, Young Leaders member and a Tri-County Soccer Club member. Her sophomore year she was named First Team All Mahoning County and Second Team All Conference. Her junior year she was named First Team All District and First Team All Conference. While serving as a caption her senior year, she was named First Team All District, First Team All Conference and Second Team All State. She was awarded the Senior GPA Award and was named The Vindicator Fall Athlete of the Year.
Canfield High School Athletic Director Greg Cooper welcomed Malinky’s friends, classmates, teammates and family members to the signing.
“We are very happy to be able to hold this event for Macey. She will continue her soccer career at John Carroll University. We would like to congratulate you on your successes at Canfield High School. At the same time, we would like to recognize your family, including your brother, sister and grandparents. This didn’t just happen, there was a lot of hard work put in by you. And you are in inspiration to our younger athletes who aspire to follow in your footsteps,” Cooper said.
Cooper then introduced Canfield High School girls soccer head coach Phil Simone.
“Thank you for coming out today to recognize Macey today, along with her family. I would to thank the Malinky family for the four years they put into our program. Congratulations, Macy, we wish you the best of luck. John Carroll is getting a tremendous player in Macey. She is a phenomenal soccer player and I know she will succeed at the next level. We will miss her leadership on and off the field. She was always a great friend to all our players,” Simone said.
Cooper then opened the floor to Malinky.
“Thank you for being here to share such a special moment. I would like to thank all my high school and club coaches. You helped to shape me as a player. I would like to thank my family, first Cam and Alli for never missing a game and to my grandparents for texting me before my games. And to my parents, thank you for your endless support and love over the years. It’s been an awesome journey and I can’t wait to see where the next four years take me,” Malinky said.
Cooper wrapped up the signing with a few last words.
“We will follow your exploits with pride back here at Canfield High School while you are playing with your new team at John Carroll University,” Cooper said.
