Boys track takes second at tri-meet at Falcon Stadium

The Boardman boys track team improved its 2018 record to 10-1 and 7-1 in the AAC after finishing second at a tri-meet at Falcon Stadium on May 1. Fitch was first with 88 points followed by the Spartans with 66 and then Canfield with 29.

The Spartans opened the meet with a second place finish in the 4x800 relay with the freshmen team of Frank Bero, Cristian Ortiz, Brennan Stratton and Jonah Bacho in a new BHS Freshman Record time of 8:50.25.

The next event, the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Brian Yauger placed first. In the seated 100 freshman Micah Beckwith placed first in a career best time of 23.40. The 4x200 relay team of seniors Justice Jama and Billy Cammack, junior Josh Rodriguez, and sophomore Isaiah Suarez placed first.

In the 1600-meter run, Bero placed second and sophomore River Flatley was fourth.

The 4x100 relay team of Jama, Rodriguez, Suarez and sophomore Rashie Garner placed second. Junior Payton Torres placed first in the 400 in a career best time of 52.3, he was followed by Ortiz in second and senior Jason Fabian in fourth. Beckwith placed first in the seated 400. In the 300 hurdles Yauger placed first and sophomore Manfred Kastiga was fourth.

The 200-meter dash saw Cammack finish third. The next event was the 3200-meter run which was won by Flatley with sophomore Caydin Newberry in third, and senior Matt Moradian was fourth. The 4x400 meter relay team of Rodriguez, Boggess, Ojewale and Torres placed first.

“We really had some great performances today,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Fitch is still an excellent team, but we are pretty solid too.”

In the field events, Cammack was fourth in the high jump and junior Nick Torres was fourth in the long jump. Senior Steven Amstutz placed first in the shot put and junior Nikitas Missos was second in the discus. Senior Mark Moradian was second in the pole vault and senior Jacob Kimble was fourth.

The BW-3 Meet MVP was senior Mychal Wicker for his two career best races in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
