Children ran around the yard of Poland United Methodist Church as they scrambled to collect the most eggs during the church’s Easter egg hunt on March 31.

The church scattered more than 20,000 eggs in the back and side yards around the church. Each child registered for the event received a prize from the church.

“It’s a nice time for people to come together,” said Becca Simon, the children’s outreach director with the church, continuing to say that the holiday brings people from out of town back to visit their families and go to the church for the annual Easter celebration.

The members of the church had a dinner and fill the eggs. Then, they began spreading them in the yard at around 6 a.m. on the day of the event. The hunt began at 9:30 a.m. and lasted for about an hour.

In addition to the hunt, the church set up a bake sale, a basket raffle and a 50/50 raffle. They also had someone dressed as the Easter bunny walk around the parking lot and pose for pictures with families.

The church has had the event for more than 50 years. They have gotten approximately 200 people each time in recent years.
