Sophomore Isabella Kelty scored five goals, including the 100th of her prep career, in the Cardinals’ victory. Tara Santoro added two goals for Canfield. Sarah Green, Ashley Thompson and Athena Poullas also scored for the Cardinals. Sarah Miller and Mara Guerrieri shared goalie duties for Canfield.
Crestview 10, Brookfield 0
The Rebels’ Tanner Daub threw six innings of one-hit ball and struck out nine. Dylan Ball had two hits and four RBIs and Tyler Hurd singled, doubled and drove in two. Devin Turvey had a single and triple for Crestview and Caleb Hill singled twice.
Lowellville 11, Jackson-Milton 1
The Rockets broke open a 1-0 game with three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and six in the sixth. Dylan Durkin, Micah Mamula-Zarlingo, Bryan Harris, Matt Hvisdak and Nate Solak all drove in runs during the six-run outburst. Lowellville (10-7, 7-5 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference) had 15 hits in the game, led by Harris and Hvisdak with three each. Solak, Dom Layko and Vinnie Kacir each had two hits. Anthony Petrovich was the winning pitcher for Lowellville. He lasted four innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out one and walking zero. Jason Higgins threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. James Harris and Devan Christoff had two hits for Jackson-Milton (10-10, 8-5).
Columbiana 10, Leetonia 0
AJ Perkins pitched a two-hitter and struck out four for the Clippers on Senior Night. He needed just 58 pitches to complete a shutout. Zach Fahs singled, doubled, tripled and scored twice. Aaron “Axle” Thistlewaite had two hits, scored twice and drove in run. Dejon Hudson was a stalwart at second base and turned a double play for Columbiana (9-13, 8-3 Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference),
Cardinal Mooney 10, Gilmour Academy 9
Cardinal Mooney’s Anthony Potesta and Jake Fonderlin drove in three runs each. Ryan Stefanec went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for the Cardinals. Brennen Olesh and Antonio Page each had an RBI. Stefanec allowed a hit and struck out one in the win. Page allowed six runs, four earned, in two-thirds of an inning. Logan Wright lead Gilmour Academy with three RBIs. Matt Christopher got the loss. He allowed one unearned run in an inning of work.
Austintown Fitch 10, South Range 0
Austintown Fitch pitchers Nick Desalvo and Nick Bianco combined on a one-hitter. South Range pitcher Sam Brooks allowed six hits, five runs and struck out three in four innings. Mike Grazier had two doubles, five RBIs and scored a run. Kole Klasic had two hits, four RBIs and one run scored for Fitch (17-7). Vinny Direnzo had two hits and scored two runs. Robby Russo had a double and a triple. Fitch will play Boardman in the sectional finals today at Fitch.
Boardman 7, New Philadelphia 1
Boardman pitcher Dylan Gurski had nine strikeouts in the sectional final win. Gurski allowed two walks and a run in a complete game. New Philadelphia pitcher Layne Perks allowed four runs, two earned, in the loss. Luke Cardillo had two RBIs for the Spartans (15-8). Mike Melewski was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Cam Kreps had a double and drove in a run.
Mineral Ridge 13, Niles 5
Mineral Ridge’s Taylor Squiric went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Teammates Dakota Edwards and Wyatt Skruck both had two RBIs and two runs scored. Koby Zupko, Cam Watkins and Jake Teeters each drove in a run. Jake Carfalo allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two in two innings in the win. Niles pitcher Michael Holloway allowed six runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks in 22/3 innings. Ken Flanigan went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Red Dragons. Niles’ Marco DeFalco and David Mays each drove in a run.
Sebring 9, Heartland Christian 4
Sebring broke a 4-4 tie with the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth. Sebring’s Nick Weingart had three hits and two RBIs, and Josh Hammond also drove in two runs. Heartland Christian’s Caleb Graft had two hits. Gabe Lanzer struck out five in four innings for the Trojans. Graft also struck out five in 32/3 innings.
Western Reserve 6, Salem 0
Ryan Slaven struck out five while giving up two hits and two walks in six innings for the win. Ryan Demsky struck out one in the seventh to complete the shutout for Western Reserve (12-8). Garrett Mihalick was 3 for 3 and Dom Velasquez, Dallas Smith and Josh Slaton each had two hits.
Mathews 4, Bristol 2
Adam Wilbert hit two doubles and Andy Miller hit a triple to pace Mathews (17-3). Hunter Schoenfeld struck out two and walked two to get the win. Mike Wiebe had two hits for Bristol (8-5).
Springfield 8, Newton Falls 6
Brandon Walters had three hits, including a triple, two RBIs and four runs scored for Springfield (15-3). Springfield pitcher Shane Eynon threw four innings, giving up two runs in five hits and a walk, to get the win and push his record to 7-0. Eynon stuck out four. Josh Honeycutt hit a double to go with three hits for Newton Falls.
Lisbon 13, Wellsville 3
Cameron Summers collected two hits for Lisbon and Jakiep Entrikin stole two bases for the Blue Devils (9-8).
Newbury 20, Southington 2
Johnny Chambers went 3 for 4, stole three bases, scored four runs and drove in two runs in the Black Knights’ victory. He also got the win after scattering seven hits and striking out seven over five innings for Newbury (8-8). Jaden Cicchella had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs. Matt Fink had two hits and scored three runs. Noah Arnold scored twice and had three RBIs and Evan Arnold had two hits, scored twice and had two RBIs.
Champion 13, Poland 0
Sophie Howell struck out 11 and pitched a one-hitter over five innings for the unbeaten Golden Flashes (20-0). Megan Turner homered and drove in three runs and Carli Swipas and Gabby Hollenbaugh each had three hits for Champion. Emma Gumont had a double and drove in three runs for the Golden Flashes. Hollenbaugh and Allison Smith each had two RBIs.
Lordstown 12, Windham 8
Jess Wilk, Lexie Ensign and Lexie Drewek each had three hits in the Red Devils’ victory. Bethany Wilson and Kaylynn Higinbotham each added two hits for Lordstown. Wilson was the winning pitcher.
Hubbard 13, Struthers 8
Jackie Adler had four hits, including a double, and three RBIs and scored twice for the Eagles. Mykala Smith had two hits and scored three times and Emma Wukelich had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. The Wildcats’ Maddie Bova doubled, homered, scored twice and drove in three runs. Khaylah Brown had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Trinity Farrar and Alyssa Ferguson each had two hits for Struthers.
Warren Harding 11, Brookfield 2
The Raiders broke open a 1-1 tie with six runs in the top of the fourth. Kelsey Heilman had two hits for Harding and Trish Donaldson doubled and drove in three runs. Nicole Stanton scattered eight hits and struck out three. Bailey Drapola and Gabby Schiska each had three hits for the Warriors and TaeYana Ashley had two.
Southington 17, Newbury 9
Haley Hamilton homered, went 4 for 4 and drove in four runs for the Black Knights and Emma Bock singled, doubled and drove in a run. No details were reported for Southington.
Garrettsville Garfield 15, Pymatuning Valley 1
Katie Synnestvedt went 3 for 3 with 2 singles, a home run and six RBIs as the G-Men won easily. She scored twice. Lizzy Perkins also went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a run and Madi Van Kirk had two singles and scored three runs. Catherine Brann had singled twice and scored four runs and Hannah Smith had singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs. Kenzie Click pitched a four-hitter for Garfield (10-6, 7-3 Northeastern Athletic Conference.
Jefferson 16, Lakeview 3
Maggie Moore homered twice, doubled and drove in four runs and Tatianna Matuz also hit a home run for the Falcons. Colleen Hurst also had three hits and Sheridon Wilber, Angelica Sack, Cheyenne Kase and Matuz each had two for for Jefferson (19-1, 8-0 All-American Conference White Tier). The Falcons led 7-3 after six innings, but scored 11 runs in the top of the seventh. Wilber scattered nine hits for the victory. Avrey Steiner had three hits for the Bulldogs (10-6, 8-2) and Tori Wells and Cait Kelm each had two.
Rootstown 13, Mineral Ridge 12
Morgan Sigley hit a grand slam and Riley Ladd and Noelle Bukovina added two-run homers in the Rams’ loss. Mineral Ridge pitcher Ariel Laneve struck out seven. Austintown Fitch 9, Howland 1
Lydia Spalding stuck out six for Austintown Fitch. Spalding hit a double and single with an RBI. Kayla Kelty went 4 for 4 with three singles and a triple with two RBIs for the Falcons (11-8, 7-3 AAC Red Tier). Lainie Simons had two singles with two RBIs and Carolina Spalding hit a double. Gabby Hartzell and Mackenzie Maze pitched for the Tigers (3-11). Maze singled and Lindsey Shrodek doubled.
Ursuline 13, Boardman 1
Jordyn Kenneally scattered six hits for the mound win and went 4 for 4 at the plate which included a double, triple, and two RBIs as Ursuline (18-4) beat Boardman in five innings. Emily Holland added three hits and five RBIs for the Lady Irish while Jenna O’Hara and Julia Nutter each singled and doubled. O’Hara also added three RBIs while Gia Caldrone chipped in with two hits and Maris Barbato hit a two-run double. Lauren Maughan hit an RBI double for Boardman.
