The concert will conclude with the traditional Fitch performance of John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” featuring drum majors, rifle and flag lines along with the formal military color guard presentation of the American flag.
The Spring Jazz Festival will take place at 7 p.m. May 16 in the auditorium. Featured bands will be the Austintown Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Jeremy McClaine and Fitch Jazz Band 1 and Jazz Band 2 under the direction of O’Connor.
The Austintown Band Parents Club Inc. will host the annual recognition banquet May 17 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center. Special awards will be presented to senior band members, including up to five scholarships funded by the band-parent organization and the Paul Pogany Scholarship presented by former board of education member and long-time band parent Joyce Pogany and her family in memory of her late husband, a former band-parent president.
The concert series will conclude with 7 p.m. performances by the Austintown Intermediate School and Austintown Middle School bands in the auditorium May 21 and 22. McClaine and Jackie Mortimer will conduct the 120-member AIS fifth-grade band May 21 with the AMS sixth-grade band. The concert’s theme will be “Places around the World.” McClaine will conduct the AMS seventh-grade band at 7 p.m., May 22 followed by the eighth-grade band. The theme of this concert will be “Adventures of the Land, Sky and Sea.”
The AMS eighth-grade band members will join the high-school marching band under the direction of O’Connor and McClaine for the Austintown Memorial Day Parade and Service at 10 a.m. May 28. The parade will begin on Idaho Road at Marc’s and end at the Veteran’s Memorial at the high school. This will be the first marching performance of the current eighth-graders as incoming freshmen and the final performance of the seniors.
Tickets for all concerts are available at the auditorium the night of each event and are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, veterans and students. Proceeds will be used to support members of the Austintown instrumental music programs and fund the annual senior scholarships.
