NOW Youngstown to host National Day of Prayer on Thursday
NOW Youngstown will celebrate the National Day of Prayer from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the square in downtown Youngstown in front of the Huntington Bank Building. The theme this year is “Unity.”

Church will host community workshop
The Rev. Jamie Milton and the session of the First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will host a community workshop on Racism in America, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12. Workshop includes discussions, lunch, music and brief lectures.
Community churches, the Weathersfield Trustees and School Board are invited. There is a $5 registration fee to cover lunch and handouts. Registration is needed to insure enough food and handouts are available. For reservations, call the church at 330-652-5712.
Foundation receives donation from alumni
The Rayen School Class of 1962 has donated $1,000 to The Rayen Foundation to benefit a graduating senior from the class of 2018 with a scholarship. For information, call 330-502-5214.

YMCA will host free breakfast
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The New Castle Community YMCA will host a free community breakfast at 8 a.m. Thursday at the YMCA, 20 W. Washington St. There also will be an inspirational message and special music.
Columbiana to host decorating contest
The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a birdhouse decorating contest during “Springtime in Columbiana” Friday through Sunday. Kits are available at the Chamber of Commerce office, 333 North Main St., for a $5 donation. Participants may also enter a self-designed birdhouse with a $5 donation. The houses will be displayed during the event, and the public will judge in three age categories. An award of $25 will be given to the winner in age groups 10 and under, 11 to 17, and 18 and older. Houses can be picked up by participants after the contest. Kits can be purchased at the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and may be dropped off after completion at the office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entries must be received by Wednesday. Fairgrounds to host Multiple Sclerosis walk
An estimated 300 people are expected to raise more than $50,000 at Walk MS: Canfield Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Walk MS is an opportunity for people to come together with friends, loved ones and co-workers to fundraise, connect and advocate for people affected by multiple sclerosis.

Wedding anniversary celebrations planned
The Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will sponsor two Wedding Anniversary Celebrations to honor couples who are observing their 25th, 40th, 50th or over anniversaries in 2018. Couples may register for the celebration that is most convenient for them.
The first celebration of the year will take place at 2 p.m. June 3 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. Couples planning to attend the June celebration should register at their church by April 30. Registration is limited to the first 132 couples.
The second celebration will take place at 2 p.m Oct. 21 at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Canton. Registrations will be accepted in September for this event.
Both celebrations will include Mass with Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., renewal of marriage vows, a personalized certificate for each couple and a reception for the couples and their families.

Dogsmartz Unleashed to host open house
Dogsmartz Unleashed, 1591 E. Western Reserve Road, will host its second annual open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday to raise money for local rescue organizations.
The event will include a basket auction and a 50-50 raffle for six free classes as well as door prizes, food and refreshments.
All proceeds will be divided among the local rescues in attendance. Participants will have the opportunity to take advantage of once-a-year training specials and a chance to tour the facility.
