Youngstown man faces gun charges after arrest
YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a Compton Lane man faces several firearms charges after he was accused of firing a gun several times just after midnight at a home in the 1300 block of East Indianola Avenue on the South Side.
Officers were called to the home for a report of a man threatening a woman with a gun and on their way there they saw the car the man was suspected of driving going in the opposite direction.
Police tried to pull the car over but it failed to stop, instead leading them on a chase that ended at East Dewey Avenue and the overpass over Interstate 680, reports said.
Police were able to arrest the driver, Barry Heath, 41, there.
Back at the home, officers found several spent .40-caliber casings and checked the route of the chase for a gun since the window on Heath’s car was open, even thought it was raining. Officers managed to find a loaded .40-caliber handgun about 100 feet from where Heath ended his chase.
Heath was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, failure to comply, domestic violence and discharging a firearm within city limits. He is expected to be arraigned later today.
