Third-grade students at C.H. Campbell Elementary School presented their annual Third Grade Gym Show in the high school gymnasium on March 8.
Ronie Haurin, C.H. Campbell physical education instructor, readied the students for their performance.
The students performed two shows, one in the morning for the C.H. Campbell student body and one in the evening for their families and friends. The shows featured routines which showcased the physical education skills the students have mastered throughout the school year.
The theme of the show was “Winter Olympics,” which was inspired by the recent Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. The students highlighted games from the Olympics in this tribute to the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Several students introduced each activity as the students performed throughout the show.
The students put their physical education skills on display by showing off their jump rope skills as individuals, pairs or small groups, as “Jump” by Van Halen played over the loud speaker.
The students then performed an opening ceremony, similar to the Olympics, with a Parade of Nations accompanied by the “Olympic Fanfare.” The students then presented the Olympic flag.
Next, the students recreated the Olympic Torch Relay, carrying a ‘torch’ into and through the gym, eventually coming to rest on a podium. A third-grade student then led the class in reciting the Olympic Oath.
The students then simulated skiing downhill events and skating events by gliding on foam rectangles. During the next activity, the students formed the five Olympic rings using parachutes and demonstrated several parachute tricks.
To continue their show, the students demonstrated running, skipping, side stepping and high kicks throughout the gym. To the song of “Final Countdown,” the students showed off their basketball dunking skills.
Haurin then asked all students to join the third-grade students in singing C.H. Campbell Elementary School’s Alma Mater.
The third-graders then performed the Cardinal version of “We are the Titans,” cheering and chanting their way through the gym.
To close the show, the third-graders danced, clapped and waved to “Na, Na Goodbye” as they gradually backed up away from their audience.
Haurin thanked the students for being a good audience and thanked everyone who helped make the show a success.
