Phantoms’ Peeters blanks Gamblers
GREEN BAY, WIS.
Eric Esposito’s third-period goal lifted the Youngstown Phantoms to 1-0 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday at the Resch Center.
The victory keeps the Phantoms (28-18-5-1, 62 points) in second place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference. The top four teams in each conference qualify for the Clark Cup Playoffs.
Esposito’s 15 goal was assisted by Joey Abate.
Goaltender Wouter Peeters earned the shutout, stopping 39 Gamblers shots. Maksim Zhukov stopped 18 shots for Green Bay.
The Phantoms have eight regular-season games remaining in their ninth USHL season.
The next three are on the road: Friday and Saturday against the Lincoln Stars in Lincoln, Neb.; and March 30 in Plymouth, Mich., against first-place Team USA.
The team will end the regular season with a five-game homestand at the Covelli Centre beginning March 31 against Team USA.
After a two-game series against the Chicago Steel on April 6-7, the Phantoms will play Team USA in a school-day game on April 12.
The regular season will end on April 14 with a game against the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
