Brookdale residents spread kindness

Brookdale Senior Living Solutions celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day on Feb. 16 by passing out flowers to customers at Marino’s Italian Cafe during lunch.
Brookdale facilities nationwide participated in Random Acts of Kindness Day as a part of their Kindness is Ageless campaign. The campaign is a part of their Ageless Spirit program to promote spiritual wellness.
“It shows that no matter how old you are, you can be helpful and kind,” said Vanessa Montgomery, program coordinator for the facility. “Kindness never goes away.”
Brookdale of Austintown took six residents to the restaurant with a good amount of flowers. The residents sat at a table and handed flowers out to those already in the restaurant and those that came in later while they ate.
Montgomery said Marino’s Italian Cafe was very accommodating to their needs and what they wanted to accomplish in the day. She also said the restaurant has helped Brookdale in the past.
Many of the customers seemed thankful for the flowers and some took up conversation with the residents. Montgomery told many of the customers to “pass it on,” a phrase used to encourage the continuation of kind acts.
The national Brookdale Senior Living Solutions sent a guide to the Austintown facility demonstrating how they could do the program. The guide also had hyperlinks to videos to play for the residents to explain the kindness campaign.
