Civil war headlines is lecture topic


Traci Manning of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will give a presentation on local Civil War headlines at noon Thursday at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown. Manning will focus on how the Civil War was covered by local newspapers — which events made the front pages — and how it shaped daily life in and around Youngstown.

Her lecture is part of the MVHS’s Bites and Bits of History lunch series. Guests can bring a lunch or visit Overture restaurant for a $6 lunch special. School to present ‘Androcles and Lion’


Canfield Village Middle School Players will present “Androcles and the Lion” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, in the school’s front gymnatorium. Tickets are $8 ($6 for students and senior citizens) at the door.

Lecture series at Butler museum


The Butler Institute of American Art will present a series of free lectures in which notable community members discuss the museum and its collection.

The lectures will be held Sundays at 2 p.m. in Zona Auditorium on the first floor of the museum, 524 Wick Ave. Here is the schedule:
