Girard auditor gives deadline to pass 2018 budget appropriation

Staff report

GIRARD

City Auditor Sam Zirafi told Girard council members Monday night that the annual budget appropriation for 2018 needs to be passed by the end of the month.

Mayor James Melfi swore in Jacob Zager and Mark Crain as officers with the city police department and swore in Officer Scott Strain to the position of sergeant.

A resolution was approved to honor Jack DelGarbino, a junior at Girard High School who won the state wrestling championship over the weekend, the first student in the city’s history to earn that achievement.

Third reading for an ordinance that adds a part-time police officer program to the GPD was suspended and the ordinance passed unanimously. Part-time officers will receive $15 an hour.

The program will supplement and maintain current staffing levels, and any reduction of full-time staffing will cause the program to cease.
