Registration limited for conference


The 2018 Lawrence County Women’s Conference will take place today with registration starting at 8 a.m. and the conference following at 9 at Shakespeare’s Restaurant & Pub, 1495 Mercer Road. The United Way of Lawrence County serves as the lead agency for the event. The program is designed to inspire and encourage women to follow their dreams and help create a better community. Keynote speaker will be Darieth Chisolm, an Emmy award-winning television personality and former NBC news anchor. UPMC is the main sponsor.

Cost is $25, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch buffet and swag bag of information and samples. To learn more or to register, visit or call 724-658-8528.

Helping Hands Closet is open today


Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, will have new and gently used clothing for the entire family today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All inventory is $1 each and includes men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. White tickets (new spring items) and jewelry are not on sale.

Library to host Wellness Wednesday


Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host Wellness Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Quaker room. Guest speaker will be Barb Kliner, personal fitness trainer. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to allow movement. Kliner teaches line dancing, senior stretch, tai chi and water walker classes. Registration is required and must be done online by visiting or by calling 330-332-0042.

Library to offer senior program monthly


Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., is introducing a new, once-a-month program for senior citizens in the Quaker Room. “Brain Games for Seniors,” an opportunity to keep thought processes sharp, will begin on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m.

Board games, puzzle books, coloring books, and playing cards will be available. The idea is to have a pleasant time getting out of the house to do some activities that will help keep the mind sharp. Registration is not required and attendance is free. For information, call 330-332-0042.
