SPORTS digest || Report: YSU to play Michigan State in 2021

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State is reportedly renewing its on-again, off-again series with Big Ten Conference power Michigan State.

The programs have agreed to a Sept. 11, 2021 game in East Lansing, according to FBSchedules.com.

It would be Michigan State’s first game a Football Championship Subdivision foe since the Big Ten loosened restrictions regarding strength of schedule.

According to the report, YSU will receive a $725,000 guarantee for the game. The Penguins and Spartans have played twice. MSU won both games, 28-6 in 2011 and 55-17 in 2013. Both games came during Eric Wolford’s tenure as YSU’s head coach.
