SCHOOL SECURITY | Safety meetings set

Local school districts will host meetings to discuss safety in light of a string of lockdowns. School-security issues are at the forefront of national debate after mass school shootings in places such as Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.; Italy High in Italy, Texas; Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.; and Columbine High in Columbine, Colo.

The local meetings are:

Austintown schools, parent safety summit, 6:30 p.m. Monday, in the Fitch High School auditorium, 4560 Falcon Drive.

Columbiana Board of Education special meeting to discuss employee concealed carry, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Columbiana High School auditorium, 700 Columbiana-Waterford Road.

Southington Board of Education, safety meeting, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, library of Southington Local Schools, 2482 state Route 534.

Jackson-Milton Board of Education meeting will discuss safety, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, middle school/high school technology lab, 13910 Mahoning Ave.
