Bond reinstated on man accused of child rape

Staff report

A Mahoning County judge reinstated the $150,000 bond of an Alliance man accused of raping a child.

Jay Ryan Williams, 24, of Charles Avenue, had his bond revoked in January after he received a charge for violating a protection order in Alliance Municipal Court.

Williams ran into a family member of his victim’s at a pet food store, and that family member contacted police.

Judge Anthony M. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court reinstated Williams’ bond Wednesday.

He stressed that Williams never threatened the victim’s home or safety.

As conditions of the bond, Williams will remain on house arrest with electronic monitoring. The judge granted approval for him only to attend church and meet with his attorney. In both cases, he required Williams to be accompanied by a family member.

“If you don’t learn from the first time, I’m going to hold you,” Judge D’Apolito said.

Williams has a trial scheduled for April 23.
