Dorothy Day House to host roundtable


Brittany Fair from the Lawrence County Crisis Shelter will speak about human trafficking in the area at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dorothy Day House, 620 Belmont Ave.

The crisis center works with the FBI in Pittsburgh to develop an implementation plan as well as provide training to local law enforcement, medical care providers, social service agencies and other community allies. For information, call 330-301-8698.

Legion to host meeting


The Hubbard American Legion Post 51 will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the social hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave. Parking is at the lower level parking lot of the church.

Serenity Center to host food drive

The Serenity Center will be collecting nonperishable food donations through July 13 to benefit the New Life Church food pantry in Poland. Needed items include peanut butter, canned goods, cereals, boxed mixes (i.e. Hamburger Helper), dry milk, boxed almond milk and toiletries. Gift cards for grocery stores also are welcome. Youngstown Playhouse to host fundraiser


The Comedians of Local Interest will perform a fundraiser, emceed by James McClellan, at the Youngstown Playhouse on Thursday. The event will take place in the Moyer Room, 600 Playhouse Lane. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the door. Performers will include Eric Thompson, Marcus Cox, Alex Kalafatis, Carlos Rivera, Jon Huff, Jenna Cintavey and Joey Purse.

Quarter auction will take place Thursday


Friends of Fido, advocacy group for the Mahoning County Dog Pound, and rescue Every Dog Matters, will host a quarter auction at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas Church Hall, 764 Fifth St. Doors open at 5, and the event begins at 6. Pizza slices will be available for purchase. Cost is $5 and includes a soft drink, popcorn and a door prize ticket. Proceeds benefit homeless dogs. MVHS to host scavenger hunt


The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a scavenger hunt meets road trip Friday for a summer evening testing knowledge of local history. Individuals or teams will begin the vehicular adventure at The Tyler History Center, 325 West Federal St., with a set of clues directing them to six different landmark sites spread throughout the Valley. A “lifeline” will be available for those who are stumped along the way. Bring a smart phone or digital camera to record the landmarks. The final clue will lead to the finish line at Susie’s Dogs and Drafts for a casual party. Registration begins at 5 p.m., race starts at 5:30 p.m. Independent transportation required. West Side Cats needs volunteers
