AUCTIONS

Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools will host an auction at 9 a.m. July 3 in the board room at the junior high school, 907 Milton Blvd. The auction is for timber harvesting at the school’s campus. Interested vendors must have a detailed plan of their harvest, size of tree that will be taken, method of payment to be made and how the ground will be restored from the hauling and landing of trees. FESTIVALS

Columbiana Wine Fest, set for July 20 and 21, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Town Center at Firestone Farms, 101 Town Center Ave., is selling tickets at area retailers as well as online. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 at the gate and includes 10 tasting tickets, a souvenir Wine Fest glass and event program. Individuals must be 21 or older to participate. Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, will host a Strawberry Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. June 29, rain or shine. Strawberries, ice cream, shortcake, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, snacks and beverages will be served. There will be a 50-50 raffle and a summer basket raffle; winners need not be present. Proceeds benefit the PPC Parish Life Committee and PPC youth programs.

Winona Area Historical Society will host its 7th Annual Winona Strawberry Festival that will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Quaker Meeting House grounds, at the corner of Cameron Street and Winona Road. There will be barbecued chicken halves, homemade pie, ice cream and strawberries, sides and sandwiches. There also will be information tents and cars from the Tri-State Antique Car Club. Proceeds benefit the historical society’s museum, building and grounds projects.

FUNDRAISERS

Camel Crawl 5K Mud Run and Obstacle Race will take place at 10 a.m. July 14. Park at Kent State Salem for a free shuttle to and from race. Price is $60 per person, or $50 per person for a team. Day of race pricing is $65 per person and per team. High-school football teams are encouraged to participate in a team-building challenge for a chance to win $250 for the school’s athletic booster club. Pricing for students is $25. There is a seven student minimum to participate. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Forever Safe Farm Animal Education Center Inc. Spectators can participate for free. Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club will host its Tuesday Nite Car Cruise 2018 event July 10 at the Austintown Senior Center. Proceeds will benefit a local child, Leighton Bianco Fearon, 4, who was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder that inhibits red blood cell production. A 50-50 raffle will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center and 5 to 7 p.m. at the cruise. Proceeds from the raffle along with donations will help with Leighton’s medical expenses. The rain date for the event is July 17.

McDonald Track and Cross Country Boosters will host the 17th annual Run of the Mill 1-mile Race on June 27 at Marshall Road and Ohio Avenue. Registration begins at 5 p.m., and the race will start at 5:45. Cost is $15 per person.

Sunshine Benefit Golf Outing will have its 13th annual event July 21 at Lakeside Golf Course in Lake Milton. The event is sponsored by Magilla’s Sports Bar, and proceeds will benefit Rachel Sheridan of Boardman, a sonographer at UPMC Horizon who is battling stage 3 breast cancer. The volunteer committee hosts the event to help cancer sufferers and their families in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to defray medical costs. The outing is a three-person scramble with lunch at the turn. A steak fry will take place afterward at Magilla’s Sports Bar, 255 Four Mile Run Road, Austintown. Cost is $225 per team, $30 for dinner only per person or $50 for two, and includes food and cocktails. Sponsorships also are available. Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host First Friday Block Parties from 5 to 8 p.m. July 6 and Aug. 3 on South Main St., Columbiana. The first block of the street will be closed to traffic beginning at 4:30 p.m. and re-open at 8:30. The events include shopping, food, entertainment and special events. Goodwill Industries of Mahoning and Shenango Valleys will host a one-day “Say Yes to the Goodwill Dress” event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Goodwill, 2747 Belmont Ave. There is a wide selection of bridal gowns that are about 75 percent off the original price and available for purchase. Huntington Place Plaza, 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host a Mission Night Project from 6 to 10 p.m. the second Friday of each month through October. This will be a time for the Mahoning Valley to showcase the foods, crafts, talents, customs and people who make the community a great place to live. Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will host its first JCC Dash and Splash 5K and Family Fun Run or Walk on Sunday at the JCC Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way. Registration and packet pickup will begin at 7 a.m. All participants will be bused to the main campus for the start of the race. The finish line will be at the Logan campus. After the race, hamburgers and refreshments will be served, and an outdoor pool will be available along with family entertainment. St. Brendan Church will host its summer golf outing Aug. 12 at Bedford Trails Golf Course, 713 Bedford Road, Lowellville. Shepherd of the Valley Howland, 4100 N. River Road NE, will host a free Virtual Dementia Tour experience from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday for community members interested in learning more about dementia. The tour is designed to help people identify with and understand the behaviors and needs of those afflicted by dementia. Participants will have the opportunity to utilize clinically researched, patented components that simulate the effects of aging and dementia. Trained facilitators will guide participants through common, everyday tasks and exercises, so they can experience the physical and mental challenges faced by those with dementia. Sutliff Museum is announcing its new exhibit that will run through August. The exhibit is “Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the 19th Century,” and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. There also is an exhibit of “The Original S’mores” ornaments. Each ornament shows a snowman made of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones of life, and more. Veterans’ Outreach will host its Third Annual Golf Scramble July 6 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Cost is $55 per person or $240 per team. Cost is $20 for the meal only. Great Conjunction Spiritual Center will host a bus trip to Lily Dale Assembly in Lily Dale, N.Y., on July 21. Jesus is the Key Ministry will host a bus trip to Noah’s Ark and the Creation Museum in Kentucky on Tuesday and Wednesday.
