Belmont celebration at racetrack-casino

AUSTINTOWN

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course will celebrate Saturday’s 150th running of the Belmont Stakes with a drive-through betting window from 1 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., an outdoor grilling tent with a bar, and a large projection screen outdoors broadcasting the race.

Post time is 6:37 for the Stakes, at which Justify will attempt to become the 13th Triple Crown winner.

Guests can watch and wager on all of the day’s races from Belmont Park, which begin at 11:35 a.m., inside Hollywood Gaming, while enjoying live entertainment, dining specials and more.

Advance wagering on the Belmont Stakes begins Friday at noon inside Hollywood Gaming.

Packard band in tribute to Bernstein

The Packard Band will present “Happy 100th Birthday Leonard Bernstein” on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the South Lawn Band Shell of the W.D. Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW. The concert is free.

Stephen L. Gage will conduct and Maria Fenty Denison will be the vocalist.

Music from Bernstein’s musicals “West Side Story,” “Our Town” and “Candide” will be featured.

Occupied Warren art project opens

WARREN

An opening reception for Occupied Warren, a public art project, will take place Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with an addition showing Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

The project is in an abandoned house at 232 Vine Ave. NE. More than a dozen artists, working in multiple mediums and styles, have transformed the house, dealing with themes of blight, abandonment, revitalization, and personal stories of the neighborhood and community.

Flashbacks, Lorber added to arts fest

YOUNGSTOWN

Two concerts on Central Square, downtown, have been added to the Summer Festival of the Arts weekend. The Fabulous Flashbacks will perform July 6, and jazz artist Jeff Lorber on July 7.

Tickets for the Flashbacks are $15 at the gate ($12 in advance at ticketmaster.com). Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
