Seeking pageant contestants


Applications are being accepted for the 2018 Greater Youngstown Italian Festival Pageant for ladies of Italian-descent from age 14-19 for the Miss category and age 8-13 for the Junior Miss category.

The pageant will take place Aug. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Weingart/Douglas concert Tuesday


Vocalist Valerie Weingart and pianist Peter Douglas will perform in concert in Murphy Auditorium at The Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Sebring on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public as part of the Copeland Oaks Summer Concert Series.

Production starts on ‘Top Gun’ sequel


Tom Cruise is back on the flight line for a sequel to the 1986 film “Top Gun.”

The actor Thursday tweeted a photo of himself as Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in a flight suit, looking at a fighter jet.

The photo includes the phrase “feel the need.” In the original movie, Cruise’s character talks about how he feels the need for speed.

Cruise writes #Day 1 of production of “Top Gun: Maverick.”

The movie is scheduled for release in July 2019.
