The Canfield library hosted Rock Out with the Green Team with Peg Flynn of the Mahoning Valley Green Team on July 12.

Flynn read the children the Sesame Street book “From Trash to Treasure” by Liza Alexander featuring characters such as Oscar the Grouch and Bert and Ernie whose Earth-friendly activities encouraged environmental stewardship.

The children also created musical instruments from recycled soda and water bottles with beads inside. Flynn provided the bottles and a variety of stickers the children could use to decorate their musical instruments.

“I put several little beads in the bottom of your recycled bottles, so if you get home and want to make the beads into a piece of jewelry, go ahead,” Flynn told the children.

Once the children had finished decorating their bottles, Flynn led them in singing the “Recycling Song” during which the children shook their instruments to the beat of the music.

To end the event, Flynn reminded the children to recycle at home.

“Don’t forget, our recycling bins are free. Just give us a call,” Flynn said.
