The students at West Boulevard Elementary celebrated the end of the school year with a couple special events on May 25.

The school gave each grade a field day through the week, ending with the kindergarten students playing outside on Friday. On the same day, principal Al Cervello rewarded well-behaved students with ice cream.

Physical education teacher Steve Stahura organized the field day for each of the five grade levels. He said he wanted to give the students “a day of fun.”

The field day included active games, such as a relay race on a bouncy ball and a race over small hurdles.

They also had different stations designed to cool the students down, like a station where the students sat in the shade and ate popsicles and another where they used water guns to push a milk jug.

At the end of the school day, select students from all grades joined Cervello in the gym for ice cream. The monthly “Sundaes with Cervello” event awarded to students who show good character. Each month, the teachers note the students they have observed doing something good. Each of the students’ names go into a raffle. The winning students get invited to the special event.
