Family art show to take place today
The “Family Images” art show opening and reception will take place at 6 p.m. today at The Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St. It will feature works by Judith Szabo Lepore and her sons, Jeffrey and Justin Terlecki.
Szabo Lepore retired from teaching in the Youngstown City Schools in 2014 and resides in Youngstown. She co-founded Art Youngstown, a nonprofit organization that was active from 2008 to 2017, and helped connect professional and nonprofessional artists from Northeast Ohio showcasing artworks in community shows.
Justin Terlecki lives in St. Paul, Minn., and his work has been presented by the Groveland Gallery in Minneapolis since 2011. He received a Jerome Fellowship from Highpoint Center for Printmaking to fund a series of prints based on his travels to India and Spain. Terlecki will host his first solo show at the Groveland Gallery in 2019.
Jeffrey Terlecki resides in Pittsburgh and has designed wine labels for Emerine Estate wineries and a variety of others. He also has played guitar since age 10 and has studied with Teddy Pantelas, who will perform tonight. His painting style has inspired him to write a novel based on the characters he has created.
All three are Youngstown State University graduates and often found themselves in the same classes. While students there, they were commissioned along with two other students to paint two large train murals for the B&O Restaurant.
The show will feature pieces inspired by Youngstown’s history and landscape. The pieces will be available for sale.
The show hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays through July 27.
