Newport Wetlands Tour

When: Saturday, 8-10 a.m.

What: Join naturalist Bill Gilmour for a paddle around Lake Newport and a venture into the wetlands to look for beaver activity and other wildlife interaction.

Where: East Newport Boat Launch, East Newport Drive, Youngstown.

Cost: $12 for Mahoning County residents, $15 NR; half-price for second person in tandem.

Volunteer Naturalist Hike

Community Garden & Urban Farm Tour

When: Monday, 6-7:30 p.m.

What: Join us at one of the oldest community gardens in Youngstown and the state. We’ll cover growing practices, see some unique plants and answer your questions.

Cost: Free.

Urban Trees

When: Wednesday, 3-5 p.m.

What: The joy of trees. They add beauty to our streets, downtown and landscapes. Join us to learn more about urban trees, tree issues, tree selection and more. Speaker Jim Chatfield is an associate professor and extension specialist, focusing on plant diseases, plant problem diagnostics, tree selection and the benefits of trees.

Children’s Nature Hour - Over and Under the Pond

When: Next Thursday, 10-11 a.m.

What: Join us as we read “Over and Under the Pond” by Kate Messner. Then we’ll make our own discoveries of who is over and under the Lily Pond.

Cost: $4 for Mahoning County residents, $6 NR.
