Cincy police shoot man wielding pellet guns

CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities say police opened fire on a man in Cincinnati who pointed two pellet guns that resembled actual firearms.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened during a traffic stop near Interstate 275 on Monday afternoon.

Police say the 37-year-old man was riding as the car’s passenger, and he said he wanted to commit “suicide by cop” rather than go to prison.

Four agents with the Regional Narcotic Unit opened fire, striking the man twice.

He has been hospitalized in fair condition.

The man is currently facing assault charges in connection with the shooting, as well as pending drug charges.

Police have not revealed the identities of the officers involved in the shooting.
