Officials: Cleveland terror plan organized by Maple Heights man


Cleveland.com is reporting the following:

Federal law enforcement officials are expected to announce the arrest of a person suspected of planning a Fourth of July terrorist attack in downtown Cleveland.

The FBI released a brief statement early Monday saying it will hold a press conference at 9:15 a.m. at the FBI headquarters on Lakeside Avenue in Cleveland.

FBI special agent Stephen Anthony, U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman, Cleveland police Chief Calvin Williams and other executives from the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force are expected to attend the press conference.

Authorities arrested a Maple Heights man who is accused of plotting a terrorist attack at the Fourth of July fireworks in downtown Cleveland.

Demtrius N. Pitts, 48, is charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda, a designated foreign terrorist organization, authorities said during a news conference at the FBI office in downtown Cleveland.
