Austintown man cited for impaired driving in Boardman

BOARDMAN — Township police cited an Austintown man for operating a vehicle while impaired after responding to an accident with injuries Sunday night, according to a police report.

Police were sent to an accident near Walker Mill Road and Bishop Woods Court about 8:30 p.m. Poland village police, Boardman fire department, and Lane Ambulance also responded, according to the report. Police reported seeing a 2004 BMW 350 XI against a tree, and emergency medical workers removing two people trapped in the car.

According to reports, offices smelled “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from the car's interior. Police said the driver admitted to consuming alcohol and thought he was still at a nearby bar/grill establishment.

After being treated at an emergency room, Benjamin Cavicchi, 22, of Canfield-Niles Road was cited for OVI and failure to maintain reasonable control.
