Man arrested after gunfire at Warren apartment complex

WARREN — William O. Campbell Jr., 22, of Saratoga Avenue Northwest will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court on two weapons charges and two traffic charges related to gunfire early Sunday on Lodwick Avenue Northwest in the Jamestown Apartments.

No injuries were reported from the 3:25 a.m. gunfire.

An officer was working off duty security there when he heard gunfire and headed in that direction. Another officer advised he was chasing a vehicle on Tod Avenue Northwest, but the man bailed out of his car on Dunstan Drive and fled on foot.

Another officer spotted a man near the old St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tod Avenue who was wearing only a T-shirt and jeans and who was sweating.

The vehicle the man was in before he fled had a registration address the same as Campbell’s, and the officer who tried to stop the vehicle identified Campbell as the man who fled on foot. Paperwork with Campbell’s name on it was found in the car.

Police recovered the vehicle and a semi automatic rifle from the car, two ammunition magazines and several spent shell casings from inside the front of the vehicle. A pair of black gloves were also found nearby the car.

The shell casings were the same as the ones recovered from the parking lot where the gunshots had occurred.
