Safe, truck taken
A 73-year-old man was bound and his gun safe and pickup truck were taken Tuesday after two men forced their way inside his home in the 700 block of East Midlothian Boulevard.
Lt. Doug Bobovnyik of the police department’s detective bureau said officers were called about 1:30 p.m. and found the man suffering from a head injury.
Paramedics were called and the victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Bobovnyik said after the two men got inside and bound the victim, they were able to take the safe, which had several handguns and long guns.
They used the victim’s pickup truck to get away, Bobovnyik said.
Both men who got inside were armed and they were wearing masks, he said.
A North Side man told police Monday someone wearing a hockey mask and carrying a gun burst into his home in the 1500 block of Bryson Street and stole a safe.
The 60-year-old man called police about 10 a.m., saying after the man grabbed the safe, he jumped into a car on Kensington Avenue and the car drove away.
Police searched the area for the gun and could not find it, reports said.
