Jewish Center to host open house Sunday for Summer Camp

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will host an open house and pool party from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the JCC pool to kick off registration for Summer Camp JCC 2018.

The pool will be open for a free swim, and staff members will be available to discuss through offerings and options for Camp JCC.

Camp is for children entering first through eighth grade and is open to all families. It is a 10-week program at which campers are provided a safe, fun environment to build friendships through adventures.

Camp registration will be available for an initial deposit of $100 that will be used toward the camp fee. Sign up before March 31 and receive an early-bird discount of $50.

Those attending the open house can put their name in a raffle for a chance to win $150 off the camp fees. For information or to register, visit

Library’s winter challenge set to begin Sunday

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a Winter Library Challenge from Sunday through March 3. Participants will check out books, DVDs, and other library materials and attend library programming to earn tickets for a prize raffle to take place at the end of the challenge. The more tickets earned, the greater the chance to win.

The library will have a special family-friendly kickoff luau from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Participants can enjoy the music of Fred Naragon and his steel drum, play games, have a snack and more.

During the luau, attendees will be able to pick up lists of activities that will earn tickets for the raffle. Some of the raffle prizes include Amazon gift cards, a gift card to a Salem-area restaurant, DVDs, books, toys and food items.

No registration is necessary. For information, stop in at the library or call 330-332-0042.
