Crash kills woman
A Warren man was involved in a 6 p.m. Thursday crash that killed a Louisville, Ohio, woman, 38, at U.S. Route 62 and California in Stark County.
Kristy Griffith was a passenger in a car driven by Daniel Sharpless, 35, of Louisville, the Canton Repository reported.
Griffith died at a Canton hospital.
David Jones Jr., 47, of Warren was driving a pickup truck and ran a red light at the intersection, the newspaper reported. Jones and his passenger, Dwayne Ayers, 49, also of Warren, suffered minor injuries.
Man arrested after being chased
A man who was being chased Thursday by a woman wielding a large knife was later arrested for domestic violence.
Police were called about 12:40 p.m. to the area around Jordan’s Market on Market Street for a report of a woman chasing a man with a knife. They found the woman at Market Street and West LaClede Avenue with a Boardman police officer, and she was holding the knife.
The woman told police she was getting ready for work in her Cleveland Street home and arguing with her boyfriend, Carlton Sims, 33, when Sims pushed her to the floor and punched and kicked her, then took some money from her and ran away.
Sims was found in a gas station across the street and taken into custody. The woman was treated by paramedics for a large bruise on her head. Police took the knife and placed it in an evidence locker.
Pa. man found dead
Pennsylvania State Police have charged a Pittsburgh man with the fatal shooting of a city man after an apparent robbery Thursday night.
Gerald Frank, 27, of Pittsburgh, is accused of robbing and shooting Harry Kennedy Jr., 49, of Farrell at a Wallis Avenue home, according to the police report. When police arrived at the home, Kennedy was found dead of a gunshot wound, the report said.
Police arrested Frank on Friday morning after statements he gave officers were determined to be false, the report said. State troopers believe Frank intended to rob Kennedy for cash and narcotics, according to the report.
Frank faces charges of criminal homicide, conspiracy to commit robbery and theft.
Teen charged in rapes
Police charged a 16-year-old boy with rape and took him to be booked at the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center.
The offense, which police said involved victims age 9 and 11, took place on Summit Street Northwest on Wednesday morning, according to a police report. An investigation was conducted by the Warren Police Department and Trumbull County Children Services.
4 finalists set to interview for post
Four finalists for the position of Trumbull County administrator are scheduled for interviews Tuesday and Wednesday after the fifth candidate withdrew.
Warren Brown of Clyde, Ohio, contacted county officials Thursday and said he was withdrawing. A committee of three volunteers narrowed the candidates from 11 to five at a meeting this week.
Larry Collins of Saline, Mich., will be interviewed at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Three interviews Wednesday will be Gina Angle of Warren, 2 p.m.; Mike Matas of Cortland, 2:30 p.m.; and Jim Brutz of Warren, 3 p.m. The commissioners will then decide who to hire.
