Cardinal Mooney staff and students volunteered their time to collect donations for Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley on Dec. 9 and 10 at Barnes and Noble.
Staff, such as languages teacher Marlene Bassil, spent time organizing the event and volunteering. Art teacher Maureen Kandray and her students decorated the Starbucks lobby in the store.
“When Cardinals appear, angels are near,“ was the school’s slogan for the event. Volunteers made red origami birds to give out during the event to go along with their mascot, the Cardinal. They had pens, notebooks and other items with the school’s logo on them at the event.
The volunteers gift wrapped presents for those at the library for a small fee. The Starbucks location made a special drink called the “Mooney Mocha“ during the two days. All money made through the wrapping and drink sales went toward Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley.
The school also brought in their choir and speech and debate team to the store on Sunday. The choir sang Christmas Carols during the event. The speech and debate team had a story time in the children’s section of the store. They also brought a Cardinal Mooney coloring book activity with them.
