Injection well company runs legal ads a second time, extends comment period

Staff report

BROOKFIELD

Because the phone number for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources was incorrect in two legal ads that Highland Field Services published in a Warren newspaper in early December for three proposed injection wells in Brookfield Township, the company was required to run the ads a second time late last month.

The notices were published to provide the public with information about the three proposed wells off state Route 7 near the Wyngate Manor manufactured home community and to provide ways for the public to comment to the ODNR regarding the proposed injection wells.

The ODNR previously approved the construction of two other injection wells on the same site.

Injection wells force the wastewater from the hydraulic-fracturing industry deep underground under pressure as a means of disposal.

The new legal ads ran Dec. 21 through Dec. 25, according to the notices.

Steve Irwin, spokesman for the ODNR Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, said as part of the legal ads running again, the public was given another 15 days from Dec. 25 to comment on the proposed wells.

Fifteen days from Dec. 25 would result in the comment period ending Monday or today, but Irwin said someone mailing comments postmarked by Wednesday “should suffice.”

The address to send comments is: Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, 2045 Morse Road, Building F-2, Columbus, OH 43229. The phone number is 614-265-6922. The email address is oilandgas@dnr.state.oh.us.

Irwin said he did not know whether the mistake was the fault of Highland Field Services or the Warren newspaper. Highland Field Services was not required to publish the legal ads in The Vindicator.
