Rust Belt Theater unveils 2018 season

Rust Belt Theater Company’s 2018 season will include 11 productions – its most ever. Five of the shows will be premieres; 10 were written by local playwrights. All shows will be at Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave. Ticket sales will be announced in the near future. Here is the schedule:

“Dating Sucks: The Musical”: Feb. 9-10, 16-17, 23-24. A revue-style musical that explores the peaks and pitfalls of modern dating.

“The Rockin’ Horribles”: March 9-10, 16-17, 23-24. A new “Rocky Horror” parody about a painfully basic couple, Dave and Jane, who are mistakenly invited to a late-night Tupperware party in the lavish mansion of glamorous plastic surgeon Dr. Von Hauten Daugen.

“Miss Tuesday Night”: April 6-7, 13-14, 20-21: This show was a surprise hit when it premiered last year. It takes a peek behind the scenes of small-town drag pageant culture.

“Alice: A Curious Musical”: May 11-12, 18-19, 25-26. Based on the writings of Lewis Carroll, this musical adaptation of the “Wonderland” stories is aimed at adult audiences.

“One Man Show”: June 1-2, 8-9. This show will spotlight local actor Joshua Fleming.

“Couch”: June 22-23, 29-30. A collection of short plays surrounding the life cycle of an old couch as it is passed from owner to owner. This collaborative writing project will involve several local playwrights.

“Forbidden Youngstown”: July 13-14, 20-21, 27-28. An annual audience favorite that pokes fun at theater culture and our love/hate relationship with Youngstown.

“Titus Andronicus”: Aug. 10-11, 17-18, 24-25. Shakespeare’s bloodiest play, rarely performed due to its violent and controversial content.

“Hollow”: Sept. 7-8, 14-15, 21-22. A new musical based on “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

“Living Dead: The Musical”: Oct. 12-13, 19-20, 26-27. A spoof of classic horror films.

“How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas”: Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 7-8, 14-15. Starrlet O’Hara is visited by three ghostly divas the night before Christmas in this Youngstown tradition.
