CANFIELD
Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road, Canfield, will be the site of the 2018 Whispering Pines District of the Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America “Klondike Gold Rush,” that will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The “Klondike Gold Rush” takes place to teach the Scouts about some of the challenges that people faced when gold was discovered in Canada’s Yukon Territory, in the Klondike region in 1896.
There will be more than 150 Scouts and 50 leaders from communities in Mahoning County and Hubbard participating in seven stations that will test the Scouts’ abilities. Stations include: “Mining accident” (First Aid); “You may actually like it here” (Pioneering); “Keeping warm and full” (fire building and cooking); “Ignite the dynamite” (Marksmanship); “Footsteps of a dead man” (orienteering); “Panning for Gold” (Teamwork); and “Bear Bag” (safety and security). After a day of work, the Scouts will participate in a sled race, and the day will end with closing ceremonies.
The times and schedule may change due to weather conditions.
