No. 6 West Virginia 77, Kansas State 69

Teddy Allen scored 22 points, Lamont West added 19 and sixth-ranked West Virginia beat pesky Kansas State to push the Mountaineers’ winning streak to 13 games. James Bolden and Daxter Miles Jr. added 10 points apiece for the Mountaineers (13-1, 2-0 Big 12), who have not lost since their season opener against Texas A&M in Germany. West Virginia was clinging to a 65-61 lead down the stretch when Allen went to work, slicing down the lane and picking up fouls. He kept knocking down the free throws, scoring eight points in the closing minutes while helping the Mountaineers to their first win on New Year’s Day. West Virginia had lost its previous four games on Jan. 1. The Wildcats (11-3, 1-1) were led by Xavier Sneed with 20 points and Dean Wade with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Texas 74, Iowa State 70, OT

Dylan Osetkowski scored a career-high 25 points with seven 3-pointers — including the go-ahead bucket with 33.5 seconds left in overtime — and Texas beat Iowa State to improve to 3-0 on the road. Mohamed Bamba had 10 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks for the Longhorns (10-4, 1-1 Big 12), who have also beaten VCU and Alabama away from Austin this season. Bamba blocked Cameron Lard under the basket with two minutes left in overtime, and Matt Coleman beat Nick Weiler-Babb off the dribble and got a reverse layup under Lard to put Texas ahead 67-63 with 1:41 to go. Iowa State responded though, as Lard and Donovan Jackson scored in the paint to tie it at 67. But as he had all night, Osetkowski pulled up from the elbow and calmly put Texas ahead by 3. Bamba redirected a Jackson floater, and Coleman iced it at the line. Jackson scored 24 points to lead Iowa State (9-4, 0-2).

Texas Southern 78, Southern 66

Derrick Bruce scored a career-high 28 points, Demontrae Jefferson added 25 and the duo combined for 13 3-pointers in Texas Southern’s victory. Texas Southern (1-13) won its first game of the season in a Southwestern Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Bruce made a career-best eight 3s on 12 attempts and Jefferson was 5 of 11 as Texas Southern made 15 of 38 from 3-point range. Jared Sam led Southern (4-10) with 16 points and nine rebounds.
