Artists seminar on collaboration


Power of the Arts, the Mahoning Valley based arts organization, will present a seminar titled “The Art of Collaboration” today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St., downtown.

The roundtable will be facilitated by Matt Martin of Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and Bill Mullane of Ashtabula County Educational Service Center. Discussion will center on opportunities for creative problem-solving and leveraging reach and resources.

Dana orchestra in Powers concert


The Dana Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stephen L. Gage, will perform at 7:30 tonight at Powers Auditorium in a Dana Young Artists concert titled “Viva Italia.” Tickets will be $7 at the door ($6 for students and senior citizens and free for anyone with a valid YSU ID).

Featured soloists will be Anna Reitsma, flute, and Laura Makara, horn, both winners of the Dana Young Artist Competition, which was in November.

Reitsma graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hill University in 2016 and is pursuing her master’s in flute performance at Youngstown State University. She is principal flute of the Dana Symphony Orchestra and is also a flute teacher for Motter’s Music in Canfield and a private instructor for Spider Web Music in Warren.

Makara is in her final semester as a graduate student at Dana School of Music. She serves as second horn with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra and the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the Champaign-Urbana and Canton orchestras.
