Annual Harvest for Hunger campaign begins Thursday

Staff report

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, 2805 Salt Springs Road, will host the 27th annual Harvest for Hunger kickoff at 10:30 a.m. today.

Harvest for Hunger is a food-and-funds drive that takes place in February and March to help stock the food bank shelves for the spring and summer months when donations taper off.

Last year, Harvest for Hunger raised $232,783 and collected nearly 29,000 pounds of food.

All funds raised and food collected remains in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties to help feed friends and neighbors.

If people or an organization are interested in participating in the campaign by conducting a food and/or funds drive to benefit the food bank, contact Paige Tomlinson-Miller at 330-792-5522, ext. 102, or visit to download a registration form.

Financial contributions may also be made at supermarket sponsor Giant Eagle and participating Sparkle Markets by tearing off a $1, $5, or $10 coupon at the register Sunday through March 31.

Donations are added to your bill.

Harvest for Hunger 2018 sponsors are Giant Eagle, 21 WFMJ-TV & WBCB, The Vindicator, Cumulus radio stations HOT 101, K-105, Y-103 and Z-104, and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880.
