Wood’s death being deemed ‘suspicious’

Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say actress Natalie Wood’s drowning is now being probed as a “suspicious death” after new witnesses emerged.

The announcement from sheriff’s homicide detectives comes hours after CBS News aired an interview with an investigator who said Wood’s husband, actor Robert Wagner, is considered a “person of interest” in her 1981 death.

Wood disappeared after a night of drinking on a yacht with her husband and others. Her body was found later floating in the water. It was declared an accident, but police reopened the case in 2011 to see whether Wagner or anyone else played a role.

Sheriff’s officials say one new witness described hearing yelling and crashing sounds coming from the couple’s stateroom. They said other witnesses saw a man and woman arguing on the back of the boat.

Ex-Spice Girls meet up amid reunion rumors

All five former members of the Spice Girls have met up amid rumors of a plan to reunite the girl-power group.

Photos posted by several group members on social media showed Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm, Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton, Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown and Geri “Ginger Spice” Horner.

They had been seen earlier Friday arriving at Horner’s home north of London, along with former manager Simon Fuller.

The Sun newspaper reported the quintet is considering several projects, including a TV talent show, though not a live tour.

The Spice Girls were a 1990s phenomenon, with hits including “Wannabe.” They split in 2000 and last reunited at the 2012 London Olympics.

Brokaw collection opens to public at U. of Iowa

Longtime NBC journalist Tom Brokaw has given the University of Iowa thousands of documents spanning his career, and they’re now available to the public.

The collection includes a notebook with interview questions for Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev and press badges from Saudi Arabia and the 1992 Republican National Convention. A daily planner has handwritten notes such as “call Bill Gates.”

Some of the donated photos show Brokaw standing in front of plumes of smoke in New York on Sept. 11. A baby-blue book has a copy of transcripts from President Richard Nixon’s famous White House Tapes.

“This [collection] really does represent his career, his life and personal life as a whole,” said Greg Prickman, head of special collections at the university’s Main Library.

The former “NBC Nightly News” anchor donated the items to the school in 2016. The collection was made available to the public Thursday, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reported.
