College to present an Opera Gala

Staff report

Grove City College’s music department will present an Opera Gala at 7 p.m. Friday in Arnold Recital Hall of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The free concert serves as a showcase for the college’s voice students and a way to highlight the genre of music. It will be followed by a reception.

The program will include arias and duets from Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Cosi fan tutte” and “Die Zauberflote,” Delibes’ “Lakme,” Moore’s “The Ballad of Baby Doe,” Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers” and Offenbach’s “Faust.”

Student singers include: Lauren Kostelny, Callie Roberts, Rebekah Willson, Anna Shoenthal, Kirsten Ward, Kassaundra Funch and Jonathan Lees.

They will be accompanied by pianists Evelyn Munsony, Noah Allen and Joshua Tracey.

“The music on this concert runs the gamut of emotions and musical moods, from the famously gorgeous ‘Flower Duet’ to the glittery and spirited ‘Jewel Song,” said Sasha Piastro-Tedford, music lesson instructor in voice.
