Generalovich leads Poland to opening win

The Poland Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team won their opening game of the 2018-2019 season by going on the road and pulling out a gutsy, come from behind win over the Boardman Glenwood Junior High School maroon boys squad 32-27. First game jitters seemed to plague Poland as they had to play catch-up all night long, trailing 16-9 at halftime, and then 22-11, midway through the third quarter. Luke Generalovich sparked a 6-0 run at the end of the third quarter, cutting the Spartan lead to 22-17 entering the fourth quarter. In the final frame, Generalovich continued his outstanding play but none more important than his nailing a three-point bomb that broke a 27-all tie and gave the young Bulldogs a 30-27 lead with just 40 seconds left in the game. JP Genova, who scored all seven of his points in the last quarter, helped ice the game by making critical free throws down the stretch. Leading the way for Poland was Generalovich with 17 points.
