Cortland Lions Club initiates new members, installs officers

Staff report

The Cortland Lions Club recently hosted a special ceremony at the Lions Club Pavilion to initiate five new members. Installing officer Betty Robbins is the state council chairwoman. She spoke briefly of the club’s history and listed a few of the service and fundraising projects members participate in annually.

Each member qualified for a special Certificate of Centennial Membership, which is bestowed upon those who joined a Lions Club during the Lions Club International’s yearlong 100th anniversary celebration.

The initiation was the club’s largest in recent years and marked the first time a married couple joined.

The club also installed new officers for 2018-19. Robbins gave the oath of office and spelled out the duties of each officeholder and charged them with the responsibility of continuing the mission of the club, which is to provide service to the community.

The club meets every Wednesday for dinner at 6 p.m. at the rear of the pavilion, 197 W. Main St., Cortland. For membership information, visit Lions Club of Cortland, Ohio on Facebook or contact Ralph McCord at 330-219-4879.
