On July 10, the Poland library hosted a make your own lava stone diffuser necklace event.

The event ran from 6-7 p.m. and all supplies were provided by the library.

To create the necklaces, participants strung lava beads and wooden beads together on a piece of wire, creating what ever decorative style the individual wanted.

They then created a loop with the wire on either end and attached leather cord, attaching jump rings and clasp pieces to the end of the leather.

To finish the necklace, participants were encouraged to pick out a type of essential oil to place on the lava rocks.

The rocks are porous, which allows them to soak up the oil and keep the scent for a long time.

Essential oils, according to Missy Williams, the adult programing librarian at the Poland library, have a range of benefits, including a calming effect.

Along with Williams giving step by step instructions as participants made the necklaces, there was also a hand-out with instructions on it to make sure everyone followed along.

The next craft project will be DIY Summer Pom-Pom Doorknob Garland at the Poland library on Aug. 20.

Registration is required for all adult events because supplies are limited.
