Church will host yard sale Friday, Saturday


The Faith Fellowship Church of God, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., will host a church yard sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, inside the church building. Food will be available for purchase.

Church to host carnival


First Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road will host a free children's carnival from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The event, which will take place rain or shine, will include music, face-painting, a bounce-a-round, carnival games, dunk tank and more.

Back-to-school supplies for children in kindergarten through sixth grade will be available as well as other prizes for all ages. Free refreshments include hot dogs, beverages, chips and cookies. For information, call 330-505-1192.

Society to host 'Dr. Fenton Day'


Struthers Historical Society will host "Dr. Fenton Day" at 1 p.m. Sunday at the AMVETS Post 44, 305 Elm St. Guest speaker, Cassie Nespor, curator of the YSU Melnick Medical Museum, will present Night and Day: Dr. Ray Fenton on early 20th century medicine.

Dr. Fenton maintained his private practice from 1920 to 1960, served during WW I, and returned and practiced until he was appointed health commissioner. He was a native of Newton Falls and moved to Youngstown in 1914 after completing his studies at Ohio State University. He was the physician for the Struthers High School football team and was named the most distinguished citizen in Struthers in 1957. In 1960, "Dr. Fenton Day" was proclaimed.

Historical Society to host summer camp


The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host Young Historians Camp for children age 12 to 15 through Friday. This five-day camp dives deeper into local history as participants work like true historians. Participants will explore the MVHS archives and work closely together to research and create presentations to tell their stories to the public through videos, blog posts or small exhibits.

Camps run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Cost is $90 for MVHS members and $115 for nonmembers. Summer educational programs are supported by Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Cat homes needed before September


West Side Cats has cats 1 year old and older that need good homes before the move to the new location in September.
