YSU track athletes qualify for finals at Penn Relays
Youngstown State’s Chad Zallow and Jaliyah Elliott advanced to today’s event finals along with the men’s 4x100 as the Penguins were in action on Friday at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Zallow ran the fastest qualifying time in the 110 hurdles at 13.78 seconds. He advances to the Championship Invitational at 3:20 p.m. Elliott posted the fifth-best time in the 100 dash at 11.85 seconds. She will run in the championship race at 3:35 p.m.
The men’s 4x100 relay team clocked a time of 41.48 seconds and will run in the College Finals at 1:20 p.m. Running the relay for the Penguins was Carl Zallow, Collin Harden, Brendon Lucas and Chad Zallow.
Abby Jones was seventh in the high jump clearing a height of 1.67 meters. Arnaldo Morales finished 11th in the high jump with a leap of 2.04 meters.
The women’s 4x100 relay clocked a time of 46.27 seconds in the College Final on Friday. Running for the Penguins in the final were Taylor Thompkins, Keishawnna Burts, Teneisha Myers and Jasmine Smyles.
On Thursday, the women’s 4x100 relay team clocked the third-fastest time in school history at 45.95 seconds. Running for YSU in the race was Thompkins, Burts, Myers and Elliott. The Penguins ran the second-fastest time of Heat 1 and placed 15th overall in the event. The Penguins finished ahead of relay teams from UConn, Pittsburgh, Navy and Boston College while running the same time as South Carolina.
Senior Amber Eles ran a time of 14.24 seconds in the 100 hurdles while Burts clocked a time of 12:13 seconds in the 100 dash.
Jessica Stever competed in the long jump and finished with a mark of 5.55 meters (18-25) while Chandler Killins jumped a 5.12 meters. Killins placed 16th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.61 meters (31-1.25).
Harden ran a time of 52.73 seconds in the 400 hurdles, to finish 15th. Caleb Lloyd ran a time of 53.79 seconds.
Additional members of the track and field team will be at the Ashland Alumni Invitational today.
