Youngstown Chapter of The Links to host wellness fair
The Youngstown Chapter of The Links Inc., in conjunction with Mercy Health and Youngstown State University, will host its 13th annual 300 Sisters in Red Health and Wellness Fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.
Breakout sesssions will take place as follows: 8:30 a.m., “Saving Body and Soul,” Carmella Williams, or “Drugs in Our Community,” Brenda Heidinger; and 9:30 a.m., Hands Only CPR by the American Heart Association or “Myths and Realities About Intimate Partner Violence” with Dawn Powell and Malinda Gavin.
Exercise events also will be available, including Yoga with Audrey Morales at 8:30 a.m., line dancing with Lynette McElroy at 9:30 and Zumba with Kelley Frazier at 10.
A light lunch will be served from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. Tonia Farmer-Pitts, a board certified otolarygologist/head and neck surgeon. Her presentation will be, “Sleep – It’s Good for your Heart.”
Free health screenings will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. Screenings include total cholesterol (HDL and LDL) and hemoglobin A1C (test for diabetes). A 12-hour fast is required for both tests. HIV, blood pressure, body fat/BMI, bone density, stroke risk assessment and the Joanie Abdu 3-D Mobile Mammography van will also be available. Pre-registration is required for mammograms. Participants are asked to wear red and dress casually.
