Senior Director of Development at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley JoAnn Stock visited Marie Rupert’s Hilltop Elementary School third-grade class to accept a donation of proceeds from Paracord Kids on March 23.
Paracord Kids is the business the students created as part of a cross curricular unit on literacy, social studies and economics. The class made and sold paracord bracelets to their fellow Hilltop students.
“Thank you for selecting Akron Children’s Hospital as the recipient of your economics project. I’m sure you’ve learned a lot through this project, and I know you have learned the importance of giving back and helping others who are less fortunate. As kids helping other kids, this is amazing,” Stock said.
Stock also thanked the students on behalf of the children they are helping at Akron Children’s Hospital and explained how their donation will be used.
“Thank you on behalf on the kids at Akron Children’s Hospital. We try to make it as pleasant as possible for the kids at the hospital. We have a toy and activity fund set up at the hospital. We have volunteers who take a craft cart around to all the children’s rooms. On the cart are projects the kids can do to help them pass the time. We are always looking for items for the craft cart. There are sticker books, coloring books, word searches, books and toys. The money you have worked so hard to raise will be used to buy items for this craft cart. The money you have donated will go a long way. Thank you so much,” Stock said.
The students presented a ‘check’ for $676.19 to Stock, which they made and all signed.
“This is a great check. I will put it in my office so I can look at it every day and it will remind me of all the good work you have done. Thank you,” Stock said.
