Youngstown man jailed on gun charge after arrest on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Police have charged a man with having a gun in a car after he failed to tell officers he had a concealed-carry permit.

Officers also found a bag of suspected marijuana on Dylan Sanchez, 22, address not listed. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail after he was arrested about 1:55 p.m. Wednesday on East Myrtle Avenue.

Reports said an officer driving north on South Avenue saw several all terrain vehicles in the street and followed them to a home on East Myrtle Avenue. When the officer got of his car to talk to the riders, he smelled an odor of marijuana coming from a car.

Sanchez was in that car and refused to come out for some period of time, reports said. Reports said when he did get out of the car, he told officers he had a gun and eventually told them he had a permit for it. They found a 9mm handgun with a 16-round magazine in his waistband.

Because Sanchez did not tell police he had the permit when they first came into contact with him, however, he was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Police also found a bag of suspected marijuana on Sanchez when they searched him, reports said.
