Women nabbed in downtown robbery

YOUNGSTOWN — Two women were arrested on charges they pushed a woman down on Commerce Street downtown just after 12 p.m. Wednesday. beat her and took her wallet.

Stephanie McCollum, 24, of Beachwood Drive, and Latefa Stanley, 24, of West Dennick Avenue, are both in the Mahoning County jail and both are expected to be arraigned Friday on charges of robbery and drug possession in municipal court.

Reports said a woman approached a city police officer inside 20 W. Federal Place and told him she saw a woman beaten and robbed on Commerce Street. As the officer went to check, he saw McCollum and Stanley trying to get away and stopped them, reports said.

The victim told police she was standing on the sidewalk when the two women walked up to her and without warning started hitting her and pushed her to the sidewalk and took her wallet.

Other witnesses told the officer the same story and video also backed up the victim's story, reports said.

Reports said Stanley had 30 painkillers on her when she was searched and police found the victim’s wallet and a bag of suspected marijuana in McCollum’s clothes.
